Join us for this free virtual program, “Connection, Community, and Care: Embroidered Kantha” – on Wednesday, September 20, 12:00–1:00 PM.

Art historian Pika Ghosh will discuss embroidered kantha from colonial Bengal in terms of community and care. Ms. Ghosh teaches South Asian visual culture and religion at Haverford College. Her recent monograph, Making Kantha, Making Home (University of Washington Press, 2020) listens to textiles for the voices of their female needleworkers at the intersections of domestic networks, memories, perceptions, sensorial resonance and emotional experience. The program has been organized in conjunction with the exhibition A Century of Kanthas: Women’s Quilts in Bengal, 1870–1970.
